In August of 2018, Meridian approached Soar Media Group to film a series of Financial Literacy videos for social media. This video series was in support of Financial Literacy Month. Offline, Meridian was supporting youth via sponsoring a series of Financial Literacy presentations in Ontario high schools. Our job was to turn the offline activity into evergreen pieces of content that could be distributed online and repurposed for years to come.
The challenge was gathering video consent from the thousands of students under 18. We needed to ensure each presentation was inclusive and neither teachers nor students noticed the cameras. With the challenge at hand, we did what we do best, working hand-in-hand with the presenter and the school board staff to ensure a seamless video shoot.
We decided to focus on ‘faceless’ b-roll as photo/video consent from all 1,000+ students posed a challenge. We also spent time predetermining which students would participate in the presentation, having only those 18 years of age on stage during filming. As a precaution we also blocked off contingency filming dates anticipating that students who were of age might be absent on day of, or students who were given parental consent forms were not able to deliver the form with confirmation of consent.
The final videos received positive praise from fans across Ontario, with viewers applauding the relevancy and importance of topics. Collectively, the videos received over 41,000 social media views. Internally, the quality of the videos and case of working with Soar Media Group lead to two larger video projects with Meridian, extending the relationship into 2019.
“Working with Soar Media Group has been a seamless and rewarding process. From the first call, down to the last edits, Maria-Teresa and her team provided great direction on video and content creation, no matter the project at hand.”
